Graduation!!!!!!

December16

On December 16th it was the year 6 graduation!! Before the whole graduation thing started all the year 6’s went to the Moonee Valley Legends to eat dinner. I ordered lasagne and on the side was salad and hot chips. For dessert was ice cream with fruit. After everyone finished eating we got up and pushed our chairs in and made our way to the front of the Legends. The teachers: Liz, Jess and Lee had a little talk with us but we were interrupted by a roaring noise, the noise was coming from Lauren’s dad’s car. It was bright red. Lauren said it’s here because she wanted to take photos.

As we were walking to school we had to get into class roll order. We waited for what seemed like forever to actually take our seats in the gym. Before we walked in I was going over a few things that I needed to remember for later on in the ceremony. Music started playing through my ears and that was the year 6’s cue to walk in and take our seats. I was excited but nervous about if I’d fall over.

During the ceremony there were speeches and awards given out. Some of them were: the Dux award- Amelia, Visual Arts- Sozoe, and the graduating class awards, which every year 6 got.

The valedictory for graduation was Grace.

At the end the year 6’s were ordered out of the gym for the special surprise. And the surprise was a dance. It was awkward because my dad and Lilli’s nan started copying me!!!!

After the whole thing was over we were also rewarded with cake and it was good.

Moment In Time- Dress Up

December13

I grabbed the clown costume and put it on it felt silky. Lilli put the bear costume on she said it was very warm and furry. We were listening to music in the art room and sorting out costumes for the Art Show. We got our costumes on and started dancing and mucking around. Fiona was watching while we were going crazy. Bill started taking silly photos of us. We heard a knock on the door, so I ran and got it and saw little preps laughing and running away. They kept doing this until the end of lunch. Lilli and I took off our costumes and started to sort them out properly this time. (Adult and kid sizes). After sorting a big pile of costumes I moved onto making coloured paper chains. Lilli, Afrah, Bill, Daniel and I made a really long chain. (We made them decorations for the Art Show).

Once- Morris Gleitzman/ Questions

December8
  1. What makes this book good?

Answer: how Felix has the courage and confidence to save a young girl who has lost both of her parents and how he risks his life to find his parents. Also how there is a mixture of genres in the one book.

  1. What would make this a better book?

Answer: Our opinions to make this book better is for Zelda to quit complaining and saying, “Don’t you know anything” when Felix said something wrong. We also think the author could have not put so much violence in the book, such as: when the Nazis burnt the Jewish’s books and then also shot them.

  1. What’s the most important thing the author wants you to know?

To never give up and have hope in finding the people you love such as your parents and to never trust anyone you don’t you don’t know much about, and to never give up in anything.

Maths Mate Problem T4 S3 Q22

November24

Predict: I predict this is going to be about multiplication and finding the missing number in the sum.

Read: Fill in the missing number.

8 x _ = 56

Clarify: I didn’t need to clarify anything.

Big Question: What is the missing number in the sum?

Mathematicians Toolbox: I used have I seen a similar problem? And also test all possibilities.

Solve: What I did to solve this problem was I divided 56 by 8 and got 7, and 7 was my answer.

Summary: I got my prediction right. My prediction was, I predict this is going to be about multiplication and finding the missing number in the sum.

Maths Mate Problem T4 S2 Q22

November24

Predict: I predict this is going to be about figuring out what the missing number is in the equation.

Read: Fill in the missing number.

_ divided by 5 = 9

Clarify: I didn’t need to clarify anything.

Big Question: what is the missing number in this sum?

Mathematicians Toolbox: for this I used guess, check and improve and also test all possibilities.

Solve:  What I did to solve this problem was I multiplied by 5 and my answer was 45.

Summary: I got my prediction correct. My prediction was, I predict this is going to be about figuring out what the missing number is in the equation.

Maths Mate Problem T4 S1 Q22

November24

Predict: I predict this problem will be about multiplying and dividing.

Read: Fill in the missing number

12 x _ = 36

Clarify: I didn’t need to clarify anything.

Big Question: What is the missing number in this equation?

Mathematicians Toolbox: I used guess, check and improve and also test all possibilities.

Solve: What I did to solve this problem was I divided 36 by 12 and got 3 and that was answer.

Maths Mate T3 S7 Q22

November20

Predict: I predict this problem is going to be about subtraction and what the missing numbers are.

Read: Fill in the missing digits in the subtraction.

_9

–          5_

=     23

Clarify: I didn’t need to clarify anything.

Big Question: What are the missing numbers in this sum?

Mathematicians Toolbox: I used guess, check and improved and also test all possibilities.

Solve: what I did to solve this problem was I thought to myself that 9 take away 3 equals 6 and that was my answer. I did the same in the tens column but this time I added. So 5 plus 2 equals 7 so that was my answer!

Summary: I got my prediction right and also my mathematician’s toolbox.

Maths Mate T3 S6 Q22

November20

Predict: I predicted this problem was going to be about addition and also finding the missing numbers in the sum.

Read: Fill in the missing digits in the sum:

16

__

+51

= 96

Clarify: I didn’t have to clarify anything.

Big Question: What are the missing numbers in the sum?

Mathematicians Toolbox: For this problem I used guess, check and improve and I also used test all possibilities.

Solve: What I did to solve this problem was to add 6 and 1 and that made 7 and I already knew that the 6 in the answer had to equal 16 so from 7 and counted to 16 and got 9 so that would go in the ones column. I then carried the one in the tens column. Next I did the same thing but I had to remember I had the 1 that I carried so I added 1 and 5 and got 6 then I added the 1 and got 7. And then knew the answer was 9 (which were already there) so then from 7 I counted to 9 and my answer was 2.

Summary: My prediction was right and I did use those strategies to help me solve this problem.

Interview with Forensic Scientist

November20

Interviewer: Hello and today I’m here with Dr Selene Johnson who will be talking to us about handwriting analysis. So Dr Johnson how are we today?

Interviewed: I’m good thank you, thanks for having me here.

Interviewer: I have a couple of questions for you to answer.

Interviewed: Okay, cool.

Interviewer: Is there a difference in two handwriting samples from the same person?

Interviewed: There is a difference in a copied and an original sample of handwriting.

Interviewer: Why would that be?

Interviewed: Well with a copied sample of handwriting, one might turn out heavier with the ink or the writing could turn out really light.

Interviewer: What other things can you tell is different between different handwriting samples?

Interviewed: The spacing between letters! The spacing between letters is most likely to come out unevenly because like I said before it is about the copied piece of writing.

Interviewer: is there anything else you know about handwriting analysis that you could tell us?

Interviewed: Yes I do, the angle of the letters can turn out wonky as well as the fanciness of the writing can be different as well.

Interviewer: Thank you so much for coming in today and answering my questions.

Interviewed: It’s a pleasure.
